NEW Academic Skills Collection at WSA
WSA Library has recently put together a new collection of books on a range of academic skills, designed to support you in your art and design studies. This collection is shelved just beyond the Welcome Desk in Library 1.
Topics covered include academic and reflective writing and critical thinking, as well as referencing and plagiarism. Whether you are just starting your first assignment or researching and writing your dissertation or research project, there are books here to help you. These range from titles on grammar and vocabulary, through essay writing skills, to ones on doing literature reviews and research. There are plenty of resources to help you with presentation skills too and many general study skills books as well. Careers material has also been moved to this location .There is a reference copy of each title as well as loan copies so you can browse the full collection and select what is most appropriate for your needs.
The collection mirrors the ones at Hartley and other site libraries so, if the book you want is not available at WSA, just log in to WebCat, place a hold and have it brought over here for you. Also, watch out for the new look Academic Skills site which goes live this month. This contains lots of good advice about the study skills you need for university, along with links to useful resources and great websites. A key resource you can access from here is ‘Skills4Study Campus’ an online resource with interactive exercises and quizzes to help you improve your skills.
Pop in and see the collection, borrow anything that looks useful and check out the new web pages. Also have a look at the services and advice offered by Careers.
